How to Build a Better Team Culture

Culture is the acceptable behaviours of a team, including how they think and perform.

These cultures are all influenced by the environment that they practise and compete in, meaning that building a positive team culture can be dependent on their coaches or teachers. When clear norms are established, all players are more likely to abide by them. 

A team should clarify its purpose so that members can work together towards goals and being successful. Players need to work as a team to reach these. Although ability is needed to make a team successful in sports, attitude is just as vital. Without the correct attitude, the team will never reach its full potential.

How to Build a Better Team Culture?

Set a Good Example

Children learn best when they have a leader to follow, and having a coach that sets out good examples will benefit the team. When players see good habits they will be inspired to follow in suit.

Practise Confident Communication

Communication is the most important element when working in a team. Encouraging the team to interact with each other will improve social skills and also help to make decisions and come up with ideas quicker.

Reward Optimistic Thinking

Sport is not all about winning, so rewarding positivity in the time of tough times can help children to stay happy and work towards the next target.  

Encourage Diversity

Diversity allows the team to think differently and become innovative. By encouraging diversity through team members, it allows for new ideas to be passed around, which will make the team better and to grow.  Players should also be encouraged to contribute their ideas and opinions to group discussions.

Constant Improvement

Improvement leads to better engagement through the team, through enhancing work, processes and practises.
