Creating an Active Playground

Posted on 3rd October 2017 by Rebecca Page

An active playground can give many benefits to both children and schools.

Creating a positive environment where children get the opportunity to be active on their lunchtime and breaks allows a school to reap the benefits and allows children to increase confidence, whilst creating healthy habits for the future.

Benefits of an Active Playground:

  • Improved behaviour at lunchtime
  • Improved concentration levels, resulting in higher academic performance
  • Increased activity levels
  • Social benefits of interacting with friends
  • Increased confidence and self esteem
  • Increased level of skill in activity

How to Create an Active Playground:

Creating an active playground starts with assessing what children enjoy doing and how you can incorporate that into their lunchtime sessions. Planning sessions and activities will allow children to get the most out of the activities and will increase how successful they are.

An important factor to take into consideration when making a playground active is to ensure the activities are inclusive and allow children of all abilities to get involved. This will mean that more children can take part, which means that they get to have fun whilst learning new skills.

How We Can Help

Stesp2Sports qualified teams can provide playground activities during lunchtime, with structured activities. These will increase pupil’s participation by offering a variety of activities, whilst giving every child the same opportunity. Our activities inspire and engage children to be more active, which also helps them to meet the guidelines 60 minutes of physical activities per day.

Proactive use of lunchtime can help to increase children’s activity levels and make the school experience more positive. By using this time efficiently, children can have fun on their lunchtime whilst getting active. This also allows them to burn off some energy, ready to tackle lessons in the afternoon.
